The sudden rise in popularity

Looking at the stellar achievements, one might wonder the reason or the story behind Joe Rogan’s fame.
The early life of America’s beloved podcaster
He was born in Newark in New Jersey, on August 11 1967. His parents divorced due to domestic violence when little Joseph was 5 years old. As a child, his family moved from city to city till he was about 11 years old.
As a student, he was highly active in the Little League Baseball and was keen on learning martial arts. He felt that he would not lose and would feel confident with his training and strength. Joe came victorious in the US Open Championship taekwondo tournament as a lightweight player when he was just 19 years old.
However, due to health issues, frequent headaches and sustained injuries, he retired at the early age of 21 years.
How did Joe get into the comedy and creative field?
As a hardcore comedy fan, he got a break in the stand-up world on 27 August 1988 at an open-mic event at a comedy club. However, while working on his stand-up comedy gigs, Joe continued teaching taekwondo and other martial arts. In 1994, he got his first TV show gig. Joe was on the MTV show Half-Hour Comedy Hour and bagged a three-year contract on the show. And, this is where the ongoing journey of Joe Rogan began.
How did Joe Rogan grow his podcast?
Networking equips artists with the resources and infrastructure they need to expand their fan base. Among the many possibilities, the network looks after the promotion, leaving the artist to create the best content. However, Rogan completed the major chunk of the job individually. Apart from that, he does not tie the episodes in short durations, making them lengthy and packed with information.
Apart from that, he kept the existence of the podcast a low-key fact. So, he didn’t market it rigorously to attract as many listeners as possible. He even didn’t try to monetize his podcast right away as many new creators do to make money. So, the podcast grew organically and focused only on the content he was putting out. To say it in a single sentence, Joe broke all the rules of “growth hacks” and still managed to reach the top. Slowly, built a strong fan base without seeking popularity or money as some people do.
What makes Joe Ragon famous today?
As beloved as Joe maybe, some people don’t like his opinions. People call him the “generational voice for men” and see his opinions as to the reason for his fame. He has spoken on political topics and gender pronouns in a way that not everyone finds pleasant. However, it makes the podcast appealing to those who refuse to allow societal norms to rule their lives.
With many guests, he has a massive collection of episodes and is still actively recording new ones. From Oxford alumni to marketing people to bioengineers, he has hosted a large number of guests from a wide range of industries. His podcast episodes often compel people to think about how they see things from a rigid point of view.
What is Joe’s personality like?
Despite the popularity, people say that he tries to live as a regular person who is trying to put out valuable content. Most of Joe’s detractors are unaware of the depth of the community he has created, and they act as if attempting to do so is futile. But, irrespective of people’s opinions and judgements, he continues to produce content as if the haters don’t exist.
